Thing Frankfurt is an art-related network and member of The International Thing Network.

The main idea is to provide an alternative and independent hub for the discourse of art, critique and new media outside galleries and institutions.

Which is partly dedicated to the ideas of Michael Lingner (Hamburg) that the quality of contemporary art depends on the quality of dicourse about it.

History

The Thing was founded in 1991 in New York by Wolfgang Staehle as a computernetwork of art- and art-related addicts formerly based on a BBS-Mailboxsystem with knots at New York, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Vienna. Since 1995 stations have moved to the WWW. Currently there are New York, Hamburg, Berlin, Amsterdam, Vienna and Rome.

Since 1996 this page is meant as a tiny flag within the web-space, to define a place of an idea called "The Thing", which still lacks a precise meaning here in this city. But there may be a few people who might find it useful to have a "tool" like this.
