Alternative Art Spaces

and art projects (kunst projekte) are a prominent feature of the Frankfurt art scene dating back to the beginning of the 1990s.

Often artist-run they are perceived as a "shadow economy" occupying the niches and corners between the official art institutions like Portikus, Städel, Schirn, or Museum of Modern Art (MMK).

In Frankfurt we call them "Offspaces", a term not recognized elsewhere.
